Activate Learning (Pre-Assessment)

  1. If you did not do so in the Home tab, download the KWL&Q Chart below and fill in the “What You Know” and “What You Want to Know” columns about social media. (Columns 3 and 4 will be completed later.) 
  2. For example, in "What You Know," you can list the social media you use and any ideas or information you have about it.  In "What You Want to Know," list specific questions you would like to answer in this unit. Use questions from the box above, or create your own specific questions about social media. The quote on the left is also a good way to help you brainstorm for questions.  
  1. Use the KWL&Q Chart below and fill in the “What You Know” and “What You Want to Know” about social media. You will complete column 3 and the Q section later. List social media networks you belong to and how you use them, e.g. entertainment, information, communication. ‚Äč
  2. You will be writing about social media in the workplace, school, or politics. Go to R4S and complete the four activities found in Module 1 - Ask Good Questions > #2 - Practice, #1,2,3.
  3. Use your KWL&Q Chart and what you've learned about developing good research questions to write 4 research questions related to social media in the workplace, school, or politics in the Q section of the KWL&Q graphic organizer. You will complete the L section later.
  4. Before you leave this section, make sure you have your copies of Developing Your Questions and Turning Topics into Research Questions that you completed in step 2 and the KWL&Q Chart with your 4 questions. Your teacher may ask you to turn these 3 documents in to check your learning.
