Make a Plan to Succeed on College Placement Tests

Student steps to test success:

  1. Decide which test you need to take and determine when you will take the test.
  2. Register for the test you will take. If you need to take a college placement test like COMPASS, ASSET, or ACCUPLACER, contact the college you plan to attend to determine test dates.
  3. Use the free tools available on the OhioMeansJobs, K-12 site to find tutorials, eBooks, and practice tests you can use to prepare for the test. Click the link for PSAT/NMSQT or ACCUPLACER to find the college placement prep materials. Plan to practice a little each week for the 8 weeks leading up to the test.
  4. The night before the test, get plenty of sleep. The morning of the test, eat a healthy breakfast.

Note: Along with placement test prep, you can find downloadable eBooks with tips for writing college admissions essays. Visit the OhioMeansJobs K-12 site and click the "GET STARTED" button next to ACCUPLACER. Once you are in the LearningExpress Hub, click the menu item in the breadcrumb for College Test Preparation. Then look for the College Admissions Essay Preparation link in the menu.
