INFOhio Blizzard Bags - Grades K-3: Applying Information

Students follow the six dimensions of inquiry as they read, investigate and complete the activities. Ohio's learning standards are integrated into the activities.

  1. Go back to the story Snowflake Bentley in BookFlixGo to the Puzzlers and complete the “Word Match” and “Which Came First?” activities.  (K-3)  (10-25 minutes)
  2. Use the details in the text to focus on the events in the life of Wilson Bentley. Create a timeline of his life and achievements. Be sure to include at least 6-8 important dates. Use the Timeline Template (in Templates below). (1-3) (30-60 minutes)
  3. The book reveals a lot of information about Wilson Bentley and his passion for learning. Create a mind map that identifies character traits of Wilson Bentley. For example: curious, determined, etc. Use What I Learned in My Reseach (in Templates below) or create your own. (1-3) (30-45 minutes)
  4. Bentley found that every snowflake was unique. Create your own unique paper snowflake. Write a description of the unique snowflake that you created. Be sure to include details on the type of snowflake, dimensions, points, and more.  (2-3) (30-60 minutes)
